Overview

ReversePilot's credit reporting integration with MeridianLink allows your team to automatically pull credit reports from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion directly within reverse mortgage applications. The system handles parsing, storing, and displaying comprehensive credit data—including scores, trade lines, liabilities, and payment history—all in one seamless workflow.

What the integration does

  • Automatically retrieves credit reports from all three major bureaus
  • Supports individual and joint credit reports
  • Parses and stores credit scores and detailed account information
  • Encrypts and secures all credit data
  • Allows retrieval of existing reports ordered outside ReversePilot

Prerequisites

Your company must have active credentials with MeridianLink, a credit reporting service provider. Contact MeridianLink to obtain the following:

  • MeridianLink Client ID: Your company's unique client identifier
  • MeridianLink Client Secret: Authentication secret (encrypted at rest in ReversePilot)
  • MCL-Interface: The interface name assigned to your integration

A Company Administrator will configure these credentials in ReversePilot's Company Settings. Individual users may also set their own MeridianLink credentials in their profile, which will override the company-level credentials if provided.

Configuring company credentials

Step 1: Access Company Settings

Navigate to your company settings page as a Company Administrator.

Step 2: Enter MeridianLink credentials

Enter your MeridianLink Client ID, MeridianLink Client Secret, and MCL-Interface in the designated fields.

Step 3: Save configuration

Save your settings. These credentials are encrypted and will be used by default for all credit report orders in your company.

Ordering credit reports

For individual borrowers

Step 1: Open the loan application

Navigate to the reverse mortgage application for the borrower.

Step 2: Go to the Credit section

Click the Credit section in the application.

Step 3: Order the report

Click "Order Credit Report". ReversePilot automatically sends the request to MeridianLink, retrieves data from all three bureaus, parses the information, and displays results.

For joint applications

Step 1: Open the loan application

Navigate to the reverse mortgage application.

Step 2: Go to the Credit section

Click the Credit section.

Step 3: Order the joint report

Click "Order Joint Credit Report". The system retrieves data for both borrowers, parses their combined credit information, and displays all results together.

Retrieving existing reports

If a credit report was ordered outside of ReversePilot but exists in your MeridianLink account, you can retrieve it using the Order Identifier (the MeridianLink order number).

Step 1: Navigate to the Credit section

Open the loan application and go to the Credit section.

Step 2: Select retrieve option

Click "Retrieve Existing Credit Report".

Step 3: Enter the Order Identifier

Enter the MeridianLink order number (typically an 8-digit number, e.g., 10430844).

Step 4: Retrieve the report

Click "Retrieve". ReversePilot automatically determines whether the report is for an individual or joint application, retrieves the data, parses it, and displays results.

Credit data displayed

Credit scores

The system retrieves and displays scores from all three bureaus:

  • Equifax Score
  • Experian Score
  • TransUnion Score
  • Score Date: The date scores were calculated

Detailed credit information

For each borrower, ReversePilot displays:

  • Trade Lines: Open and closed credit accounts
  • Liabilities: Current debts and obligations
  • Payment History: Account payment patterns over time
  • Inquiries: Recent credit inquiries
  • Public Records: Bankruptcies, liens, and judgments

Account information

For each account on the report, you can review:

  • Account type
  • Creditor name
  • Account number (masked for security)
  • Current balance
  • Credit limit
  • Payment status
  • Payment history

Data storage and files

When a credit report is received, ReversePilot automatically processes and stores:

  • Credit Report Record: The main credit report data in the system
  • Account Information: Individual account details parsed from the report
  • Liabilities: Debt information extracted for use in loan processing
  • PDF File: Original credit report PDF (when available)
  • XML File: Original XML response from MeridianLink (when available)
Note. All credit report data is encrypted and access is restricted to authorized users in compliance with privacy regulations.

Troubleshooting

Credit report won't order

Possible causes:

  • MeridianLink credentials not configured or invalid
  • Borrower information is incomplete (missing name, SSN, or address)
  • Network connectivity issues
  • MeridianLink service outage

Solutions:

  1. Verify that MeridianLink credentials are configured correctly in Company Settings
  2. Ensure the borrower's name, Social Security Number, and address are complete and accurate
  3. Check your network connection
  4. If the problem persists, contact MeridianLink support

Credit report not received

Possible causes:

  • Processing delay from MeridianLink
  • Invalid or incomplete borrower information
  • MeridianLink processing error

Solutions:

  1. Wait a few minutes and refresh the page
  2. Verify that borrower information is accurate, especially name spelling and SSN
  3. Check for error messages in the Credit section
  4. Retry ordering if needed

Missing or incomplete credit data

Possible causes:

  • Incomplete credit report from the bureau
  • Data parsing errors in ReversePilot
  • XML or PDF format issues

Solutions:

  1. Review the original PDF file if available to verify what data was returned
  2. Check the XML file for raw data from MeridianLink
  3. Contact ReversePilot support if data appears to be missing despite being in the original report

Best practices

  • Order early: Pull credit reports early in the application process to identify potential issues sooner
  • Verify borrower information: Ensure all borrower details (name, address, SSN) are accurate before ordering
  • Review reports: Always review credit reports for accuracy, especially public records and liabilities
  • Document issues: Document any credit issues or discrepancies for your loan file
  • Retry if needed: If an initial order fails, wait a moment and try again
